SC refuses anticipatory bail, grants interim protection of four weeks to move regular bail

The SC on May 29, 2020 {SURESH K.S  vs THE STATE OF KARNATAKA} held that taking into consideration the history of the case and particularly the fact that four FIRs filed against the petitioner on the same allegations have already been quashed, it is inclined to grant interim protection to the petitioner for a period of four weeks.

The SC Bench, comprising of Justice N.V. Ramana, Justice R. Subhash Reddy & Justice Surya Kant, however, held that it is not inclined to interfere with the impugned order passed by the High Court dismissing the anticipatory bail application of the petitioner.

The SC accordingly directed that the petitioner shall not be arrested for a period of four weeks. The Court also granted liberty to the petitioner to move the trial court to obtain regular bail. With the aforesaid liberty and direction, the special leave petition stood disposed of by the SC.
